National Environment Trail
Theme - N.E.T. Quest Expedition: 1700 miles on foot, solo, wothout back-up, with native breed pack ponies, through Britain's most remote parts.
Possible Content - the changing countryside, access and rights of way, farming practices, hunting practices, expeditions in the UK, links with land, the social and historical importance of native breed ponies.

Children - 21st century guardians of the land
Theme - A biodiversity resource to record practical conservation work by schools.
Possible Content - conservation roles of schools and pupils, the Internet, British biodiversity, lasting links with land, possible projects, 'Dreaming 2000' resource, community involvement, using I.T.

Conservation: Aboriginal view
Theme - Relevance of conservation views and perceptions of Aborigines to our lifestyle in Britain.
Possible Content - Aboriginal communities in Arnhem Land: lifestyles, 20th century problems, Dreamtime and views of the land, rock art, hunting, conservation practices, land rights, culture, views of Aboriginal school children, myths and misconceptions, tape-recorded conversations, relevance to 21st century.

Theme
- Account of an expedition in the Northern Territory.Possible Content - Route, Aboriginal lifestyle, weather recording, physical geography, river monitoring, flora and fauna, G P S, data logging, environmental impact, tourism, sacred site rock art, unusual events (expedition diary), logistics.

Fragile landscapes
Theme - Fragility of Australian ecosystems, particularly in Western Australia and Northern Territory.
Possible Content - Ecosystems (coastal, plateau, desert, rainforest), erosion, human impacts, camels and horses, tourism, flora especially wild flowers, mining, national parks.

Theme - Use of information technology to monitor the natural environment.
Possible Content - Sensors, data logging, pocket book computers, note book computers, data analysis software, water quality and weather investigations, Global Positioning Systems, photographs and video, telephones, Internet, tape recorders, fax polling, field excursions. (Relevant to users of Acorn, Apple Macintosh, IBM compatible computers.)

Find the palm, miss the croc!
Theme - Account of a rainforest expedition in the Northern Territory to save a palm from extinction.
Possible Content - Scientific aims, drying out of rainforests, Ptychosperma bleeseri, environmental monitoring of rainforests, burning practices, human impacts, survey methods, portable technology.

Theme - Expedition logistics for teachers and/ or pupils.

Environmental data logging
Theme - Application of data logging to environmental and conservation issues.
Possible Content - data logger, simple sensors, experimental procedures, data transference to pocket book computers, note book computers, graphical analysis using customised software and standard spreadsheets, fieldwork issues, national curriculum key stages, GCSE and Advanced level projects. World in the palm of your hand
Theme - Applications of palmtop computers.
Possible Content - fieldwork templates for word processor, spreadsheet and database, file transference (field to lab), the palmtop as an integrated study tool, case studies at primary and secondary level.

Global positioning by satellite
Theme - Application of G P S (Global Positioning System) and telecommunications to environmental education and information technology.
Possible Content - Navigation Systems, G P S accuracy, mapping co-ordinates and route finding, video and photographic recording of locations, satellite transmission of data, fax polling, G P S accuracy, school fieldwork, Australian mining data, Internet.

Minimal impact tourism
Theme - Think globally, act locally: a link between Australian and British tourism issues.
Possible Content - Tourism effects, minimising our impact, biodegradable products, comparative effects of humans, horses, camels and 4-wheel drive vehicles, relationship between tourism issues in Australia and outdoor activities in Britain, erosion, expeditions.

Fax polling & the internet
Theme - Creative writing, word processing and fax polling.
Possible Content - The expedition as an adventure, expedition diaries as a curriculum resource, environmental education and creative writing, letters by satellite, fax polling, inter-school communication, the Internet.

Cameroon's Rainforests
Theme - Rain forest Destructon in the Bakossi Mountains of Cameroon. An expedition undertaken with Earthwatch and The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, 1998
Possible Content - Lives of the Bakossi, Rainforest threats, Sacred Sites, custodianship of land, musical instruments from Rain Forests, plant processing techniques, medicinal cures.

CURRICULUM RELEVANCE
